Bio:

Rachel Kavathe is a mixed-media sculpture artist and place architect investigating the relationships between people and nature. Her artwork seeks to connect people with place by making visible the often hidden or overlooked natural systems working around us and through us. In addition to her site-specific art installations and community-led designs of place, she works as a landscape architect, city planner and professor of landscape architecture and urban design.

Artist Statement:

My practice explores the interdependence among people and the natural world, expressed through both large-scale public installations and intimate studio works. Across these modes, I seek to make visible the hidden or overlooked natural systems working around us and through us.

Both my sculptures and paintings are rooted in the exploration of human connection to place and land. I work with sustainably harvested local materials and salvaged remnants to invoke memory, ephemerality, and interconnectedness. Both the studio-based work and my large-scale site-specific work create an ongoing dialog about community, place, connection, and land stewardship.
