“Natural (Guilt)”, 32x30x8in, Wood, Gesson, Gilding

Bio:

I grew up in Philadelphia across the street from a large, wooded park which I could not explore enough.  The Philadelphia Art Museum was almost a second home.  I discovered Brancusi, Duchamp, and Schwitters, and played between the figures of Rodin’s Burghers of Calais when that work was behind the museum.

After earning a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art of Temple University and an M.F.A. from Rinehart School of Sculpture of Maryland Institute College of Art, I moved to Louisville, teaching and exhibiting locally, raising a family, and making sculpture.  In 2023 I published the book, Seeing Sam Richards’ Sculpture, a comprehensive look at my husband’s work. 

I continue to explore the possibilities of sculpture.

Artist Statement:

I am currently using painted wood to construct and carve images of imagined landscapes that address my deeply felt thoughts about the forces of nature and time.
